Putting the Fun in Fundraising

The League was founded in 1989. Dinner is Served is our longest-running fundraiser, introduced in 2001. It began with sixteen restaurants offering 130 seats and raised approximately $10,000. In 2011, 44 restaurants participated raising approximately $20,000. It continues to be one of our most popular and successful fundraisers. The League appoints ad hoc committees to propose and plan other fundraising events throughout the year. These are intended to be fun as well as fundraising events. We work hard, but we also have fun and make wonderful friendships in the process.

In addition to the fun we have working together, we schedule purely social events for members.  The September business meeting is replaced by an evening “Boys of the League” party for members and their husbands or significant others. The meetings for May and December are replaced by luncheons for members and prospective members.

Many exciting League events have captivated the minds, appetites, and checkbooks of friends of the Opera House, who have given generously to help restore—and now support—the theatre. Intimate Evenings of Commentary and dialogue with Dan Rather and Paul Erdman set a scholarly tone to early fundraisers. We have sponsored an eclectic mix of White House dignitaries, world-renowned soloists, and rock’n roll bands. We have helped several Napa Valley restaurants such a Coles and Morimoto Napa open with a splash, and parties up and down the Valley have contributed enthusiasm and donations.

The League meets every month to plan fundraising events and enjoy the camaraderie of working together for a good cause. We are always looking for new energy, ideas, and help. It is open to anyone in the community who wants to work—and have fun—to support the performing arts in the Napa Valley and the Opera House.
